Dark Sweet Sauce Prawn / Kicap Manis Prawn 黑酱油虾

My family love dark sweet sauce. We always have one in the pantry and it is gone in a breeze. It can be used for dipping sauce, drizzling over rice, making gravy... and of course, making this delicious dark sweet sauce prawn (if you do not have dark sweet sauce, use a thick dark soy sauce and add sugar to your liking).

Dark Sweet Sauce Prawn / Kicap Manis Prawn 黑酱油虾

This is something that my mom always made for us, and we were constantly complaining about not enough sauce. Now there is a switch of role, I am the one making it, and my family the one complaining about not enough sauce. 

The ingredients list is short, but the taste is fantastic. When the caramelised dark sweet sauce meet the fried ginger and shallot, wonders happen. It tasted... complicated, and bring you to a exciting flavor journey. Believe it or not, you will make this again and again.


Dark Sweet Sauce Prawn / Kicap Manis Prawn

  • 400g big prawn
  • 1 tbsp ginger, julienned
  • 3 tbsp fried shallot
  • 3 tbsp ABC Kicap Manis (can be substituted with thick dark soy sauce and add some sugar to your liking)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil
Cooking Directions
  1. In a frying pan, heat oil and fry ginger till fragrant.
  2. Add kicap manis and worcestershire sauce.
  3. Add prawn and fried shallot.
  4. Stir fry the prawn until sauce thicken.

  • 400克大虾
  • 1汤匙姜,切丝
  • 3汤匙炒葱头子
  • 3汤匙ABC Kicap Manis(可用黑酱油代替,以自己的喜好加一些糖,)
  • 2汤匙隐汁
  • 3汤匙食油

  1. 在锅内热油,爆香生姜。
  2. 加入ABC Kicap Manis和隐汁。
  3. 加入虾和炸好的葱头子。
  4. 翻炒至收汁。
